mywaterloorugby.com has been developed by three lifelong members of Waterloo - Phil Rylance, Simon Yarwood and Dave Raywood.
We've seen Waterloo's fortunes wax and wane over the years. There have been some fantastic highs - the John Player Cup final in 1977, topping the national league tables (even if only very briefly) when they first started in 1987, the Powergen Shield Final in 2004 and promotion to National Division 1 in 2006.
But the truth is that ever since professionalism entered the game in 1995, Waterloo have struggled to compete financially and success has sometimes been bought at a punitive cost. In 2003, Waterloo were forced to sell their second team (and training) pitch to pay mounting debts but by 2008 they were penniless again.
And then in February 2008, Phil read about a football club run by an online community. Phil, Simon and Dave looked at the idea in more and more detail and came to the conclusion it was so outrageous it might just work! We think we've learned from others' mistakes, we think we've adapted the concept to fit rugby and we hope we've come up with a way to help Waterloo connect with fans and the wider global rugby community, while raising sorely needed funds along the way.
mywaterloorugby.com is a non-profit organisation, all proceeds after expenses go towards funding Waterloo's success on the pitch and no individuals are making any personal profit out of your subscriptions.
We're just three ordinary blokes trying to keep the club we love alive. We hope you'll enjoy the experience, win a prize or two and maybe, just maybe, together we can shake up the established order...
Yours in rugby,
Phil Rylance Simon Yarwood Dave Raywood
